Objective progress
Overview
The progress of an Objective is automatically calculated based on its direct sub-items: Sub-Objectives and Key Results (KRs).
Calculate the Objective progress
The progress of an Objective is always expressed in percent.
The individual sub-items impact the parent item’s progress based on their contribution (weight).
Objectives and sub-objectives are updated automatically. However, although it is possible to manually change their progress on the OKR update screen, the manually entered value will not be saved. For that reason, Objectives and sub-objectives should not be updated manually.
Objective progress = The sum of progress of all direct sub-items divided by the total number of those sub-items.
The direct supporting sub-items can include:
Sub-Objectives
Key Results
linked issues (they affect the automatic Key Results’ progress)
linked boxes (the work items in the scope of linked boxes affect the automatic Key Results’ progress)
Below, you can see an Objective (highlighted in blue) and the five direct sub-items (highlighted in yellow). Objective’s progress is based on these five sub-items and their weight.
Objective progress: Example
Given:
Total number of direct sub-items = 3
Key Result 1 progress =66.67% and its weight = 1
Key Result 2 progress = 9.41% and its weight = 1
Key Result 3 progress = 20% and its weight = 1
Therefore:
Objective progress = (66.67%x1 + 9.42%x1 + 20%x1)/3 = 32.03%
