Edit transitions
Overview
When a state is selected in the workflow panel, the transitions, state parameters, approvals, and tasks (as applicable to the state) are listed in the state editor. You can add and edit transitions from the state using the Transitions editor.
Choosing Transitions opens the Transitions editor:
Existing transitions can be edited or removed
New transitions added
Each state can have more than one possible transition to a destination state in the workflow.
However, when the state has an approval added:
Approve and Reject transitions can be added
Select and Submit transitions cannot be added
To add an approval and the related approval transitions, you must remove any existing Select or Submit transition from the state.
State transitions editor
When a state is displayed in the state panel:
Choose Transitions to open the transitions editor for the current state
Any existing added transitions from the current state and transition destination state (or destination state options for a select transition) are displayed.
Edit an existing transition
Choose an existing transition to change the transition type and/or the destination state using the dropdown menus.
Choose Add to save the change.
Remove a transition
Hold the pointer over a transition and choose the X to remove a transition.
To save the changes to the state, ensure you choose Apply.
Add a new transition
One or more transitions can be added to a state by choosing the
Transition type from the Transition dropdown menu
Destination state from the State dropdown menu
Choose the Transition dropdown menu.
Choose a transition from the available transition types
To complete the transition, you must configure the destination state (or, if a Select transition is chosen, one or more destination states)
Choose the State dropdown menu for the new transition
For a Submit transition, only one destination state is possible. Use the Select transition if you want to provide the user a choice of destination state.
To amend changes to state transitions, choose Add.
To avoid the loss of transition updates made in the editor for the state, ensure that you:
Add the changes to the workflow by choosing Save in the Navigation panel
Add the updated workflow to the content or dashboard by selecting Exit in the Navigation panel
Approved and Rejected transitions
The Approved and Rejected transitions are only available after an approval has been added to the state.
There is no requirement to add both the Approved and Rejected transitions. Only one is required for the approval.
Adding an approval to the state restricts the choice of other transitions for the state - the submit and select transitions cannot be added.
Adding a condition for a transition
For Select transitions, one or more conditions can be added that must be met for the select transition to be active.
Conditions for a select transition include
haslabel - Requires the content to have the label or labels added as the condition value
user - Requires the current user to be one of the users added as the condition value
Check Invert to make the condition valid when the value(s) specified are not present.
If the condition is not met, the workflow state dialog box on the page does not display the select transition option.
For more details on the Select transition, see the state-selection macro and conditions pages.
