Transitions
Overview
Transition types
Transitions move the applied workflow from one state (the current state) to another (a destination state).
Transitions are added to each workflow state and can be
State select transitions - Manual transition to another state undertaken by a user using the workflow state dialog box
Content change transitions - A transition that occurs automatically when a page is updated, on a state due date expiry, a content review decision, or completion of a task
Content review transitions are dependent on the approve or reject decision undertaken by a user using the state dialog box
The updated, expired, and tasks completed content change transitions are not displayed in the workflow state dialog box. These are transitions undertaken by the workflow, and one or more can be added to a state that also has either a content review transition, or a user state select or submit transition
More than one transition type can be added to a state, but a state selection transition or submit transition cannot be used in a state together with a content review (approval).
In addition, workflow triggers can be added to the workflow to action a change of state. These workflow event trigger transitions occur on a selected workflow event. The trigger listens for this event, and, when it occurs, it triggers a change of state.
Destination states for a transition
The destination state can be selected by a user or added by the workflow, depending on the type of transition:
state selection transitions - User selection of the destination state can be set to be a single state or a choice of one or more of the states in the workflow
content change transitions - The destination state is determined by the workflow set for the specific content change
event trigger transitions - The destination state is determined by the workflow event trigger
