First steps
Welcome to the BigPicture crash course!
Welcome to your first step in mastering the art of project management with BigPicture!
This project-based course is designed to help you quickly get up to speed with BigPicture, whether you're a beginner or looking to improve your skills.
Who is this course for?
This course is meant for BigPicture users, such as Project Managers, team members, and other key stakeholders. This course is not for Jira and App Admins.
However, some of the links throughout the course will refer you to the relevant pages in the Admin Guide. While you are not expected to carry out actions reserved for admins, the concepts covered on those pages are equally beneficial to admins and non-admin users.
How is this course structured?
Throughout this course, you will work with the Waterfall box, but the main concepts covered in the course can be applied to managing other types of projects, as well as programs and portfolios. So once you learn how to handle one specific box from start to end, you will know how to go about managing other boxes.
Course content
The course begins with creating and setting up a box, and continues throughout managing resources, generating reports, handling priorities and risks, up to retiring a box upon project closure.
Course 1: Create your first box
In this course, you will familiarize yourself with the concept of a box and learn how to create a Classic project type of box.
Course 2: Populate your box with data
The next step is to add project tasks to the box.
Course 3: Structure your project tasks
This course will give you an overview of how you can arrange your tasks into different hierarchical structures.
Course 4: Synchronize task start and end dates with Jira
To ensure that tasks correctly synchronize between Jira and BigPicture, you need to map their Jira fields to their respective fields in BigPicture.
Course 5: Grant access to your box
You need to assign relevant box security roles so that teams and individual stakeholders can view, edit, or manage your box.
Additional resources and links
At the bottom of the page, you will find additional resources in the form of use cases and links to relevant documentation pages. These are meant to help you better understand the concept and process, and learn about the fine details that are not covered in this course.
Troubleshooting pages for potential problems
Whenever applicable, course pages contain a troubleshooting section where you can find solutions to potential problems you can encounter while executing the actions in a real project scenario.
