Overview of Power Database Fields

Overview of Power Database Fields

Power Database Fields enables you to import data from an external database into a database custom field in your Jira. You can execute any type of queries on the database. When data is retrieved, you select it from a set of results as a select list or autocomplete box. The app also provides a field configuration page where you can associate queries with the necessary Jira fields.

Version compatibility and field types

Power Database Fields has evolved significantly, with version 6.0+ (August 2022) introducing breaking changes that removed legacy field types. Understanding your current version is crucial for determining which fields are available in your environment.

Migration required when upgrading to version 6.0+

If you're upgrading from version 5.8 or earlier to version 6.0+, you must migrate your legacy fields before upgrading. Failure to migrate will cause your field configurations and data to disappear from the Jira UI. See the migration page for details.

Current users (v. 6.0+)

If you're running Power Database Fields version 6.0 or later, you have access to next-generation database custom fields only:

  • Advanced Database Row Field: Replaces the functionality of Database Information, Database Child Information, and Database Row custom fields

  • Advanced Database Table Field: Replaces the functionality of the Data Table custom field and displays data in a table grid format

For additional information, see the Next-generation Power Database Fields documentation.

Legacy Users (v. 5.8 and earlier)

If you're running Power Database Fields version 5.8 or earlier, you likely have legacy database fields that need to be migrated. Here’s a list of the deprecated Power Database Fields:

  • Database Information custom field

  • Database Child Information custom field

  • Database Row custom field

  • Data Table custom field

To access next-generation functionality, you must migrate these legacy fields to:

  • Advanced Database Row Field

  • Advanced Database Table Field

You can access the documentation for the legacy fields here.
