[DC] Close an objective
This page is about OKR for Jira Data Center. Using Cloud? Click here.
Closing an objective gives you a chance to review the work done, look at the progress, and finally, grade the objectives. By grading the objectives, you declare if you’ve achieved the goal and if not, how far you were from achieving it.
In OKR for Jira, when you close a top-level objective, you can also automatically close all of its sub-objectives and key results (KRs). That’s why it’s often best to start by closing the highest-level objective first.
How to close an objective
Go to the objective you want to close.
Click the three-dots menu in the top-right corner and select Close. The Close the objective screen displays.
Select the final status for the objective. You can choose from:
Success
Incomplete
Failed
Cancelled
Rescheduled
This status will also be applied to any open sub-objectives and key results. If you want to give sub-items a different status, close them before closing the main objective.
Write a short summary explaining how the work on the objective went and why you selected that status.
This summary applies only to the current objective. After closing, you can edit the final summaries for sub-objectives and key results separately.
Grade the objective on a scale from 0 to 1. A grade will be suggested based on progress, but you can adjust it based on your judgment:
0 = no progress
0.3-0.5 = some progress
0.6-0.9 = nearly complete
1 = fully achieved
Click Close objective to save your changes and finish the process.
