Issue view estimation

Issue view estimation

This page is about Agile Poker for Jira Cloud. Using Data Center? Click here.

You can estimate issues directly from the issue detail view using Agile Poker. This is helpful when team members want to vote independently without joining a session.

This feature is enabled by default, unless disabled at the global or project level. You can use it for straightforward issues where minimal discussion is needed. For complex issues requiring team discussion, consider using the Interactive session.

How to enable estimation in the issue view

Option 1: Global configuration (for all projects)

This setting enables the feature platform-wide. Once enabled, each project admin can decide whether to use it or not.

To enable it globally:

  1. Go to Apps > Manage your apps > Agile Poker > Configure.

  2. Under Features, turn on Issue details view.

Also, you can open any Jira issue and find the Agile Poker panel on the right-hand side, and click the cog icon in the panel to open settings.

Configuration options

  1. Under Features, enable Issue details view.

If disabled, the Agile Poker panel will not appear in the issue view.

  1. Select the estimation field where the final estimate should be saved(for example, Story Points).

  2. Choose from commonly used estimation values (for example, Fibonacci, T-shirt sizes), or define a custom set your team prefers.

You can use labels to display and store numeric values behind the scenes using the format: Small=1, Medium=3, Large=5, etc. You can also use time-based values such as 1w (1 week), 1d (1 day), 1h (1 hour), 1m (1 minute), or combine them (1w 2d 3h 4m).

  1. Choose how Agile Poker will suggest a final estimate once all votes are submitted.

All changes are saved automatically.

Option 2: Project-level configuration (per project)

Once globally enabled, project admins can control whether the Agile Poker panel appears in the issue view for their specific project.

To configure this:

  1. Go to your project’s Project settings > Apps > Agile Poker.

  2. Enable or disable the Issue details view for that specific project.

    Agile Poker in Project settings.
  3. Enable Inherit global settings for estimating from issue details if you’d like this project to use the global settings for estimation field, estimation values, and suggested estimate method. Turn it off if you want to customize estimation settings specifically for this project.

  4. You can override default values by configuring:

    • Estimation field

    • Estimation values

    • Suggested estimate logic

This is especially helpful for larger organizations that want to enable Agile Poker in some projects but not others, or use different estimation rules across teams.

How estimation works in the issue view

Once enabled, the Agile Poker panel will appear in the Details section of each issue. Here's how the flow works:

  1. Team members open the issue they need to estimate.

  2. In the right-hand panel, they open the Agile Poker panel.

  3. Each person submits their estimate independently. They can comment regarding the issue being estimated.

  4. Once ready, any team member can click Reveal to view all submitted estimates. Once revealed, you can see:
