An event is something that can trigger notifications. There are system and custom events in Jira. System events are used throughout Jira internally, and cannot be added or removed. Custom events are used to generate email notifications from a particular workflow transition's post function. An event can be either active or inactive. An inactive event is not associated with any notification schemes or workflow transition post functions. Inactive custom events can be removed.
