Feature differences between Scaffolding Data Center and Scaffolding Cloud
Before migrating your Confluence Data Center spaces, review the feature differences and identify macros that cannot be migrated.
Scaffolding macros
In Confluence Data Center, there are not many restrictions on how macros can be used together. In Confluence Cloud, a macro with a body can’t be nested inside another macro. This limitation affects the Scaffolding macros, so some work differently, and some are not available in the new cloud editor. For details, refer to Macro differences between Scaffolding Data Center and Scaffolding Cloud.
Scaffolding Data Center
There are 19 Scaffolding Data Center macros.
Scaffolding Cloud
There are two Scaffolding Cloud macros. The Scaffolding - Field Group macro includes 11 input field types for creating forms in Scaffolding Cloud.
Scaffolding data structure
Scaffolding Data Center
To add input fields to a page, you insert certain macros directly on the page. Some macros interact with each other and must be nested inside other macros.
Scaffolding Cloud
To add input fields to a page, you insert a Scaffolding - Field Group macro and build the structure of the page inside this macro by choosing the input fields from the left-hand panel and dragging them into the editing area.
Scaffolding content editing
Scaffolding Data Center
Clicking Edit Contents opens a separate Scaffolding content editor.
Depending on the Scaffolding field macro type, editing values can be done directly in this area or in a separate popup editor area.
Scaffolding Cloud
Clicking Edit Content turns the page view into an editable area.
Scaffolding settings
Scaffolding Data Center
Scaffolding Data Center includes administrator settings, which allow Confluence administrators to set the default setting for the Edit Contents mode as well as limit settings for the List Data and User Options macros. For details, see Accessing Scaffolding's Administrator Settings.
Scaffolding Cloud
There are no further configurations in cloud.
Scaffolding data history
Scaffolding Data Center
Scaffolding Data Center allows users with the proper permissions to view the Scaffolding data history on a page that contains Scaffolding data.
Users can compare versions or restore older versions using this feature.
Scaffolding Cloud
All changes to pages with Scaffolding macros are recorded in the page history, including Scaffolding structure changes and data changes. Users are able to restore page data to an earlier version through the Confluence page history.
Due to the feature difference between data center and cloud, only the current version of the Scaffolding data is migrated to cloud.
Integration with non-Scaffolding macros
Scaffolding Data Center
Since you insert input field macros directly on a page, you can add any other Confluence macros inside this page along with Scaffolding macros.
Confluence Data Center supports nested macros, which means you can nest and integrate Scaffolding macros with other Confluence macros.
Scaffolding supports integration with most reporting macros/apps, such as:
Page Property Report macros (Atlassian Confluence macros)
Reporting app macros
Scaffolding Cloud
The Scaffolding - Field Group macro is a standalone macro that reveals a separate editor where you can build your page structure. While this editor supports most Confluence page functions, it does not support other complex macros and third-party macros.
Confluence Cloud currently does not support nested macros (see CONFCLOUD-68323), which means integration with other apps via nesting is limited.
Due to this limitation, pages and templates that contain Scaffolding macros nested with other macros fail during the migration to cloud. We suggest simplifying the page structure and removing any complex third-party macros in the page/template before performing the migration to cloud. Feel free to contact our support team for further advice.
Currently, Scaffolding Cloud does not support integration with reporting apps such as Page Property Report macros.
