Migration to cloud
This page explains the migration support details for the Reports and Timesheets for Jira app content to Cloud.
The JCMA support details are not applicable to the app Timesheets for Jira on the DC instance.
Pre-requisites
Install the latest version of Reports and Timesheets for Jira and Jira Cloud Migration Assistant on the DC instance.
Migration process
Install (and configure) Reports and Timesheets for Jira on your cloud instance.
Install Jira Cloud Migration Assistant on the DC instance from which you intend to migrate the Reports and Timesheets for Jira app configurations.
Navigate to the Migration Assistant home screen: System > IMPORT AND EXPORT > Migrate to cloud. With the help of Migration Assistant, you can migrate global app configurations, users, and groups, as required. For more information, refer to this page.
Limitations
The following fields are not supported after migration:
Advanced custom field types
Development summary
Hidden job switch
Jira released version history
Job checkbox
Story points
Global rank
Text field (read only)
Standard custom fields
User Picker (single user): Userkey
User Picker (single user): Username
Back Up Approver (Administration > Timesheet Approvers)
Third-party custom fields and JQL functions: Any third-party custom fields and JQL functions used in the DC are not supported after migration in either case, if:
The corresponding cloud application does not exist for the third-party custom fields and JQL functions.
The corresponding cloud application exists but is not installed on the cloud instance.
My Reports > Published link: The Published link does not display the report data after migration to cloud.
To view the data, open the report, run it, and re-publish it. Re-publishing overwrites the existing published report.
My Reports > The Agile Reports do not display the Board drop-down value after migration.
Users can edit/open the report, manually select the Board drop-down value, run it, and re-publish it.
Subscription emails - The report subscribers do not receive subscription emails in the cloud after migration.
Users need to set the subscription email recipients manually.
Timesheet Approvers for Site admins (Root user): For Site admins, the Timesheet Approvers Id does not get migrated to the cloud.
The Site admin can edit the Timesheet Approvers and add the Approvers back in the cloud.
App vendor checks
App vendor checks are run for the apps marked as Needed in Cloud to reduce the possibility of app migration failure. Review the warnings for each check and follow the instructions to resolve them.
These warnings do not block your cloud migration. However, we recommend fixing them for the best results after migration.
Follow the instructions provided and download the CSV reports as a reference to fix the issues.
The Reports and Timesheets for Jira app includes the following app vendor checks:
Custom fields check
Some custom field types in Jira Data Center are not supported on Jira Cloud and do not migrate. Hence, any reports that reference these will not work.
Download the report to view the list of unsupported and supported custom fields and update the reports with other alternatives.
The report displays the Data Center report details such as the report name, report ID, report page name, custom field ID, custom field name, and custom field type.
Access permissions check
During migration, the Access Permissions configured in the Jira Data Center app override / merge with the existing Jira Cloud app permissions.
Download the report to view the Jira Data Center app Access Permissions configurations.
After migration, review and update the Access Permissions on Jira Cloud to ensure the user groups have the required access to the Reports and Timesheets for Jira app.
Calculated fields check
Migrated reports can include calculated fields.
Download the report to know in which reports calculated fields are used, and whether the calculated fields use any custom fields.
After migration, you can use this report as a reference to check for calculated fields used in reports.
Reports and Timesheets for Jira Gadget check
The Reports and Timesheets for Jira gadgets added to the Jira Data Center Dashboard do not migrate to the Jira Cloud Dashboard, so they will not be visible after migration.
To resolve this issue, after migration, manually recreate the Reports and Timesheets gadget on the Jira Cloud Dashboard.
Follow the instructions below to fix this issue:
Navigate to Jira Cloud Dashboard
Add a new gadget for Reports and Timesheets for Jira app and configure the gadget as required.
JQLs/Jira filters in Reports check
Reports with JQL queries containing JQL fields filtered by IDs will break because Jira Cloud assigns new IDs after migration.
The fields are as listed below. Each field has a unique numerical ID within your Jira instance.
type = 10019
filter = 16311
id = 10167
issue = 10168
resolution = 10000
status = 6
priority = 4
statusCategory = 3
cf[10050] is not EMPTY
fixVersion in (10135)
affectedVersion in (101507)
component in (10002, 10049)
For example, after migration, the type field with Data Center ID 10019 will have a new unique ID on Jira Cloud. To fix this, you need to manually update with the new Jira Cloud ID.
cf[XXXXX] refers to a custom field with unique ID XXXXX.
component in (10002, 10049) refers to component in (component ID1, component ID2)
Additionally, reports show blank Jira filters, though filters migrate successfully at the Jira level. Manually reselect the appropriate Jira filters for each report in the cloud.
Follow the instructions below to fix this issue:
First, update your JQL queries by replacing the Jira Data Center ID references with corresponding Jira Cloud IDs.
Navigate to Reports > My Reports.
Edit the report.
Select the required filter from the Jira filter dropdown.
Save the report.
Third-party apps check
The Reports and Timesheets for Jira app integrates with the third-party app Tempo Timesheets.
If Tempo Timesheets is configured in Jira Data Center but not on Jira Cloud, migrated reports can not work as expected. To ensure proper functioning of reports, set up the integration between Reports and Timesheets for Jira and Tempo Timesheets on Jira Cloud before migration.
Follow the instructions below to fix this issue:
Install the Tempo Timesheets app on Jira Cloud.
To set up the integration between Reports and Timesheets for Jira and Tempo Timesheets, navigate to Jira > Reports and Timesheets for Jira > Administration > Tempo Timesheets and follow the instructions on the screen. For more information, refer to Tempo Timesheets Integration.
